Kay Rosen, Kay Rosen AKAK
Kay Rosen's new artist's book, Kay Rosen AKAK, encompasses nearly forty years of production by this influential and important artist. Kay Rosen AKAK is the first comprehensive book published on Ms. Rosen's work.
Ms. Rosen constructed Kay Rosen AKAK with the same level of conceptual strategy and structure as she would an autonomous work of art. The book includes over 100 artworks dating from 1969 through 2009, categorized according to six conceptual strategies employed: COLOR, SOUND, ANTI-GRAMMAR, LETTERS, SYSTEMS AND PATTERNS, and GRAPHICS. The works are presented alphabetically (according to the text featured in each work) as color plates, with each plate coded by the strategy employed in the piece. The book thus functions as a grid, intersecting these two organizational approaches, exploring gray areas, slippages and overlaps between systems.
Also included in Kay Rosen AKAK is an index of 27 texts written by Ms. Rosen over the course of the last four decades, each text focusing on a different individual artwork. There is also an introductory text by Ms. Rosen at the beginning of the book, giving the reader/viewer definitions of the six strategies used for categorization and a clear understanding of how the book is structured.
Kay Rosen AKAK, to be distributed by D.A.P. Inc., measures 10 x 8 inches, contains 225 pages, and retails for $49.95. Fifty books from the print run are accompanied by a limited edition print, Go and Do Good, 2009, made expressly by Kay for Regency Arts Press Ltd. Please see our EDITIONS page for more information.
